HDO emission from low - mass protostellar envelopes

We present theoretical predictions of the rotational line emission of deuterated water in low-mass protostar collapsing envelopes. The model accounts for the density and temperature structure of the envelope, according the inside-out collapse framework. The deuterated water abundance profile is approximated by a step function, with a low value in the cold outer envelope and a higher value in th...

Methanol Abundance in Low Mass Protostars

Methanol lines observations of a sample of low mass Class 0 protostars are presented. Using a 1D radiative transfer model, I show that several protostars have large abundance jumps in the inner hot and dense region of envelopes, probably because of thermal grain mantle evaporation. These abundances are compared with a grain surface chemistry model.

Formaldehyde emission from low mass protostars

We present a survey of the formaldehyde emission in nine class 0 protostars obtained with the IRAM 30m and the JCMT millimeter telescopes. Using a detailed radiative transfer code of the envelopes surrounding the protostars, we show that all but one of the observed objects show an inner warm evaporation region where the formaldehyde is much more abundant (up to three orders of magnitude) than i...

Search for Binary Protostars

In an effort to shed more light on the formation process of binary stars, we have started a program to study multiplicity among nearby low-and intermediate-mass protostars using the OVRO Millimeter Array. Here, we describe the project and present the first results on the protostellar core in the Bok globule CB 230 (L 1177). At 10 ′′ resolution , the molecular core is resolved into two component...

Evolutionary Signatures in the Formation of Low-mass Protostars

We present an evolutionary picture of a forming star. We assume a singular, isothermal sphere as the initial state of the core that undergoes collapse as described by Shu (1977). We include the evolution of a first hydrostatic core at early times and allow a disk to grow as predicted by Adams & Shu (1986). We use a 1-dimensional radiative transfer code to calculate the spectral energy distribut...
